“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also the interests of others.”
~Philippians 2:3-4
I LOVE Philippians chapter 2. The whole chapter applies to making yourself a servant and putting others above yourselves, and I would post the whole passage, but I’m afraid if I did people wouldn’t read the whole thing because of how long it is (sadly, I tend to do that sometimes :().
Lately, I’ve been struggling with a bad attitude and selfishness. Ironically, my memorization verses for this week come from Philippians 2 talking about just that. It’s so hard to be humble and put others above yourself in a me-first world, but in order to imitate Jesus, my Lord and Savior, I must follow His example and go against what my sinful nature and the world tell me.
In my most WONDERFUL Bible study on Tuesday nights, we are reading through the book The Enemy Within by Kris Lundgaard. It is a book about sin and how our spiritual battle against sin is a daily battle. There are times when I can definitely feel my sinful nature rebelling against God and the right thing to do, and it has been good reading this book. The battle against sin never ends until we are safe at Home, but until then, the only way to fight it is with the Lord’s help.
“The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD.”
~Proverbs 21:31
