The Lord determines your steps

As the school year approaches, I have been thinking a lot about this next semester. Many times change can be hard, and in college, it seems like every semester is a big change. People come and people go, you live somewhere new each year, you take different classes with different people…

This year is going to be especially different for me since I have completed my music minor and I’m moving on to complete my Elementary Education major. I almost feel like I am changing my major at times. I know I wasn’t, but for the past two years I felt like a music major. I was surrounded by them, and I took the same classes that they took. The hardest thing for me now is being done with orchestra at UNC. Spain was a wonderful finale, but that still doesn’t make it easy to go into this semester without being in it.

I’m not even sure exactly what I want to do after college, but I do know that I want to teach. Sometimes I feel like I really want to teach music; other times I just want to be a school teacher. As I contemplated all these things this afternoon, I sat down to do my devotions.

In April, I started reading through one chapter of Proverbs a day (since there are 31 chapters in Proverbs, it works out really nicely:)). My goal for the summer was to read through Proverbs five times, by reading one chapter a day (April – August), and I have almost done it! My chapter for today was Proverbs 16, and God really spoke to me through a couple of the verses.

Proverbs 16 says a lot about the future.
~Proverbs 16:1 – “To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue.”
~Proverbs 16:3 – “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.”
~Proverbs 16:9 – “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”
~Proverbs 16:33 – “The lot is cast into the lap, but every decision is from the Lord.”

It’s practically the theme of chapter 16! Isn’t it amazing how God arranges little things like that? :)
