Toddler Bible Lessons – Week 10: Esther

Posted by on October 12, 2020

Day 2: Only Worship God

*There are 2 activities for this day’s lesson. Feel free to choose one of the activities OR spread them out over several days! :)

  • Materials:
  • Bible (I like the NirV)
  • Activity #1: Painter’s tape, Several dolls or animals, Objects to “worship” – dollar bill or coins, mirror (self), doll (another person), picture of the sun, sports ball, a toy car, an American flag
  • Activity #2: 4 sheets of colored construction paper, painter’s tape

Day 2: Lesson and Activities

  • Open Bible to Esther 3:1-2. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Then, “read” the story. The king made a man named Haman a very high position. He gave Haman a seat of position that was higher than any other noble. All the royal officials at the palace gate got down on their knees and bowed to Haman. But Mordecai, Esther’s cousin, refused to get down on his knees. He wouldn’t give Haman any honor at all. Mordecai worshiped God alone!

Activity #1:

  • Sing (Tune: I Will Call Upon the Lord) I will worship God alone! I will worship God alone! (arms up in the air) He is worthy to be praised! He is worthy to be praised! (point up in the air)
  • Make a line on the floor with painter’s tape. Line up stuffed animals and dolls on the line.
    • I taped the line down ahead of time, and Katelyn was excited to walk back and forth like she was walking on a balance beam!
  • Bring out one object at a time – dollar bill or coins, mirror (self), doll (another person), picture of the sun, sports ball, a toy car, an American flag.
  • Make the animals/dolls bow down to the object. But then exclaim, “No, no, no! That’s not God!”
  • Put arms up and sing “I will worship God alone” song.
  • Repeat with all objects.

Activity #2:

  • Prep: Tape 4 sheets of colored construction paper to the floor in a row.
  • Play version of Simon says – “God says”
    • God says, “jump on yellow!” God says, “tap red!” etc.
    • Say, “Haman says” when it something you don’t want the child to do – to tie it into the Esther lesson and talk about how we don’t want to do what people say if it doesn’t line up with what God says.

Closing: Psalm 56:11, I trust in God. I will not be afraid. We don’t have to be afraid to worship God alone.

Extra Activity:

  • Katelyn loved the colored paper on the floor. I left it there for the morning and then peeled it up and stuck it onto to butcher paper for her to have a fun painting surface in the afternoon!
  • You know the age of your child and your comfort level with activities as a mom, but this was a good opportunity to work with Katelyn on boundaries. She thought it was funny to go close to the edge and try to paint on the wall. When I told her no and she continued to try to paint on the wall, I took away all the paintbrushes. She was upset about that. I reminded her again that we paint on the paper, not the wall. When I gave the paintbrushes back, she did great! You may have to end the activity if your child continues to push painting in the wrong places.
