Toddler Bible Lessons – Week 10: Esther

Posted by on October 12, 2020

Day 3: Pride and Humility

*There are 2 activities for this day’s lesson. Feel free to choose one of the activities OR spread them out over several days! :)

  • Materials:
  • Bible (I like the NirV)
  • Activity #2: 2 oranges (I used cuties), Clear container that has depth (salad spinner, see-through pitcher, clear vase, etc.)

Day 3: Lesson and Activities

  • Open Bible to Esther 2-3. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Then, “read” the story. Mordecai found out that two of the king’s officers were planning to kill King Xerxes! Oh, no! Mordecai saved King Xerxes’ life! Haman was still angry that Mordecai would not bow to him. King Xerxes asked Haman’s advice on how to give the greatest honor to a man. Haman thought the king wanted to honor HIM, so he came up with an extravagant plan.
  • Put a royal robe on him that you, the king has worn. Bring a horse you have ridden on. Have a royal mark placed on the horse’s head. Let the man be led on the horse through the city streets. Announce in front of him, ‘This is what is done for the man the king wants to honor!’”
  • But the king wanted to honor Mordecai, not Haman. Haman was so angry. He had to lead Mordecai through the streets on a horse calling out that the king wants to honor him! God rewards a humble heart, but a prideful heart will fall.

Activity #1:

  • Walk around while singing (voice bouncing up and down like Who Did…Jonah song)
  • Pride, pride, pride, pride. Pride goes before a fall – FALL! (fall down!)
  • Humble, humble, humble, humble. Humble gets a great reward – HONOR! (get a horsey ride!)

Activity #2:

  • Prep: Fill up see-through container with water – I used a salad spinner base and a clear pitcher. I though the clear pitcher was better.
  • Place one orange in the water to see it float. This is like a humble person – trusting in God.
  • Peel the second orange and drop it in the water to see it sink. This is like the prideful person – boasting in themselves. They will fall.

Closing: Psalm 56:11, I trust in God. I will not be afraid. God will honor us when we trust in Him.
