Day 2: A Faithful Friend
*There are 4 activities for this day’s lesson. Feel free to choose one or two of the activities OR spread them out over several days! :)
- Materials:
- Bible (I like the NirV)
- Activity #1: Jingle bells
- Activity #3: Paper doll chain (pre-made or make together), Crayons/markers
- Activity #4: Paper, fingerpaints
Day 2: Lesson and Activities
- Open Bible to Ruth 1:12-16. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Then, “read” story. Naomi and her daughters-in-law decided to go home to Judah. Naomi said, “Go home, my daughters. Why would you want to come with me?” One daughter turned and left, but Ruth replied, “Don’t try to make me leave you and go back. Where you go I’ll go. Where you stay I’ll stay. Your people will be my people. Your God will be my God.”
- Ruth was a faithful friend!
Activity #1: Song (Tune: Jingle Bells)
- Faithful friend, faithful friend, I will be a friend! Sticking right beside you – For forever, till the end! (2x)
Activity #2: Work Together
- Sit on the floor facing your child. Put your feet together and hold hands. Rock back and forth “rowing” a boat, working together.
- Row, row, row your boat, Gently down the stream. Working together, together, together. Life is but a dream!
Activity #3: Paper Doll Chain
- Prep: Make paper doll chain ahead of time if desired.
- Color pre-made paper doll chain (or make one together) – label some of your friends
- Make a 2 person doll chain to give to a friend
- I had pre-made a 5 person paper doll chain, and we tore off 2 of them to send to a friend. I also had her paint a picture (Activity #4) and plan to glue the paper dolls on top.
Activity #4: Paint or color a picture for a friend. Give it in person or mail it.
Closing: Speak verse James 1:17, Every perfect gift is from God. A friend is a special gift from God! And Jesus is our most faithful friend. When we are a faithful friend to others, we are acting like Jesus.
