Posted by on August 25, 2020

Day 1: Samuel Listens

*There are 3 activities for this day’s lesson. Feel free to choose one or two of the activities OR spread them out over several days! :)

  • Materials:
  • Bible (I like the NirV)
  • Children’s Bible (I’m using the Say & Pray Bible for this lesson)
  • Activity #2: Piece of butcher paper, painter’s tape, sharpie, dot stickers for eyes on faces, crayons/markers
  • Activity #3: Instruments, shakers, noise makers, Scripture verse cards (email me for the ones I chose mrs.turnerviolin@gmail.com)

Day 1: Lesson and Activities

  • Open Bible to 1 Samuel 3:3-10. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Then, read the story.

Children’s Bible Reading: Open Say and Pray Bible and point to body parts on Samuel’s face. Point to our body parts. Read story and verse. Psalm 85:8, I will listen to God.

Activity #1: Be quiet and listen – what do you hear? Talk about sounds and imitate them. Go outside – what do you hear? Imitate sounds. (We did this later in the day after the lesson.)

Activity #2:

  • Prep: Tape butcher paper to wall with painter’s tape. Draw circles all over the paper (can use a bowl or other circle shaped object to trace – we used the roll of tape).
  • Decorate faces on large butcher paper taped to wall. Can use dot stickers for eyes. Draw ears, nose, mouth, hair.
  • Sing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”

Activity #3:

  • Prep: Print off Bible verse cards and cut them up.
  • The Bible is God’s Word. What does God say to us? Read a Scripture verse card.
  • Hide instrument or noise maker behind back – I hid them inside a box.
  • Sing/speak rhythmically: Listen (tap tap) Listen (tap tap) Listen to the voice of the Lord your God. Listen (tap tap) Listen (tap tap) Listen to the voice of the Lord your God.
  • Reveal the instrument. Have child play while you sing again.
  • Repeat with new verses and new instruments.

Closing: Repeat verse Psalm 85:8, I will listen to God. Pray for ears that listen to God’s Word.
