Toddler Bible Lessons – Week 7: Samuel

Posted by on August 25, 2020

Day 4: Jesus is the King of kings

*There are 2 activities for this day’s lesson. Feel free to choose one of the activities OR spread them out over several days! :)

  • Materials:
  • Bible (I like the NirV)
  • If you have a toy crown, it would be fun for this lesson
  • Activity #2: Tin foil, Markers, stickers, etc. to decorate crown, Cross cut out of cardboard – I used 2 paper towel tubes glued together (one cut a little shorter for the crossbeam)

Day 4: Lesson and Activities

  • Open Bible to 1 Samuel 8:5-7 and 9:15-16. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Then, “read” the story. The people wanted a king to lead them. Samuel was not happy with their request, so he prayed to the Lord. The Lord said, “Do not be upset. I am the One they don’t want as their king.” But the Lord gave them a man named Saul as their king. The Lord said, “King Saul will save the people from the power of the Philistines. I have seen how much My people are suffering. Their cry for help has reached Me.” So Samuel anointed Saul as the King of Israel.

Activity #1: Song (Tune: The Farmer in the Dell)

  • The people want a king – hey, hey! (raise hands in the air) The people want a king – hey, hey! God heard their cry and answered their prayer. The people want a king – hey, hey!
  • The king wears a crown – on his head! (place imaginary crown on head) The king wears a crown – on his head! He leads the people and rescues them. The king wears a crown – on his head!
  • But Jesus is the King – of kings! (raise arms up and over head) Yes, Jesus is the King – of kings! He saves all people from our sins. Yes, Jesus is the King – of kings!

Activity #2:

  • Prep: Cut a crown shape out of tin foil. Also, prepare cardboard cross.
  • Decorate the tin foil crown.
  • Glue it to the top of the cardboard cross.
  • Saul ruled as king for the people, but Jesus is the King of all kings.

Closing: Read verse Psalm 85:8, I will listen to God. Jesus is the King of kings, so He guides us and leads us.

Child-led Exploration: Katelyn loved playing with pieces of tape. After the lesson I gave her some pieces of tape, and she decorated her cross with it. It was cute that she put one piece of tape on the crown like she was taping it to the cross.
