Posted by on August 25, 2020

Day 3: God is Our Helper

*There are 2 activities for this day’s lesson. Feel free to choose one of the activities OR spread them out over several days! :)

  • Materials:
  • Bible (I like the NirV)
  • Children’s Bible (I’m using the Say & Pray Bible for this lesson)
  • Activity #1: Plastic tub, Rocks/stones, Magnetic alphabet letters, Tin foil, Paper with words written in large capital letters: THE LORD IS MY HELPER, Cookie sheet
  • Activity #2: Plastic tub, Rocks/stones, Dish soap (or bubble bath)

Day 3: Lesson and Activities

  • Open Bible to 1 Samuel 7:10-13. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Then, “read” the story. The Philistines were the enemy of the Israelites. The Philistines came near to attack Israel. God confused the Philistines and made them panic so that the Israelites could chase them away. Samuel got a big stone. He set it up and named it Ebenezer. He said, “The Lord has helped us every step of the way.” God saved His people from their enemy!

Children’s Bible Reading: Open Say & Pray Bible and read this week’s verse: Psalm 85:8, I will listen to God. Point to Samuel’s eyes. In the story we can look with our eyes and see how powerful God is. He is our Helper. We can trust Him.

Activity #1:

  • Prep: Wrap up letters individually in tin foil – all the letters to spell out THE LORD IS MY HELPER (or just LORD, MY, and HELPER). Fill plastic tub with rocks/stones PLUS the tin foil “stones.” Tape the above phrase written on paper to a cookie sheet.
  • Unwrap the tin foil “stones” and match up the letters on the cookie sheet.
  • Sing (Tune: The Lord is My Shepherd, I’ll Walk With Him Always) The Lord is my Helper, I’ll walk with Him always. He strengthens me and He helps me, I’ll walk with Him always. Always, always, I’ll walk with Him always. Always, always, I’ll walk with Him always. The Lord is my Helper, I’ll walk with Him always.

Activity #2:

  • Prep: Fill plastic tub with soapy water. “Hide” rocks/stones at the bottom.
  • Find the rocks and stack them up. Samuel set up a big stone to remind the people that God is their helper.

Closing: Psalm 85:8, I will listen to God. God is our Helper. We can trust Him!
