Toddler Bible Lessons – Week 8: David

Posted by on September 14, 2020

Day 5: The Presence of God

*There are 3 activities for this day’s lesson. Feel free to choose one or two of the activities OR spread them out over several days! :)

  • Materials:
  • Bible (I like the NirV)
  • Activity #1: Popsicle sticks and/or thicker craft sticks (plain wood color), Contruction paper, Glue
  • Activity #2: Empty pasta box with window, Small objects to place inside pasta box

Day 5: Lesson and Activities

  • Open Bible to 2 Samuel 6:16-18. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Then, read the verses. David brought the Presence of God (through the Ark of the Covenant) into the city with the people. Jesus brings us back to the Presence of God through His sacrifice on the cross.

Activity #1:

  • Glue popsicle sticks stacking horizontally on piece of paper. Toward the bottom, place 2 sticks side by side so that they stick out on both sides (these are the handles of the ark). The Ark of the Covenant had angels on top, but Jesus enables us to be in the presence of God – so make a cross on top of the ark.
  • (Tune: Are You Sleeping?) God is with us, God is with us – Always now, Always now. Jesus died to bring us, Jesus died to bring us (point to cross on top of ark) – Close to God, close to God! (give a hug!)
  • After we made the “ark” together, I let Katelyn put her own sticks on to make a pattern. It was fun for her to get to design something where I wasn’t telling her exactly what to do. But she put a cross on hers, too. ;)

Activity #2:

  • “Hide” a small object inside pasta box.
  • Our sin separates us from God, and we are in darkness. Where is the hidden object? (Peek in/shift the box to see it.) Peek-a-boo! (Remove object) Jesus brings us back to God!
  • Repeat with other objects.

Activity #3:

  • Hide behind something. Where is Mommy? Pop out and say “Peek-a-boo!” Give a hug. God is always with us!
  • Hide again. Have child hide also.

Closing: Psalm 47:6, Sing praises to God, sing praises! God is always with us. Thank You, God!
