Joseph Day 3: God Uses All Things for Good
- This lesson is sort of like 2 short lessons put together. I did them both together in the same day, but you could easily split the lesson also to extend over more days – Bye Bye, Joseph for the first lesson, God Uses All Things for Good for the second lesson.
- Materials:
- Bible (I like the NirV)
- Jesus Storybook Bible
- small, special object (we used a racquetball because it was a good size and Katelyn loves balls right now)
- pile of blankets
Day 3: Lesson and Activities
- Bye Bye, Joseph: Open Bible to Genesis 37:28. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Then, read verse.
- Look at pictures on pages 78-79 of Jesus Storybook Bible.Joseph’s brothers sold him to be a slave! Bye, bye, Joseph!
Activity #1: Fly Away fingerplay
- Hold up pointer finger on both hands – Two little blackbirds sitting on a hill
- Bring one forward, then the other – One named Jack and one named Jill
- Make one wiggle to fly away and hide, then the other – Fly away, Jack – bye bye! Fly away, Jill – bye bye!
- Bring them back – Come back Jack, come back Jill
Activity #2: Hide special small object in a pile of blankets. Say “bye, bye – lost” and then find it again. I talked to Katelyn about Joseph going away and being “lost” to his daddy. Sometimes I even called the ball “Joseph” and said, “Where’s Joseph?”
- God Uses All Things for Good: Pick up Bible again. Turn to Genesis 50:20 and read.
- Joseph got in trouble even though he did the right thing. Make a sad face. But God had a plan. God uses all things for good. Cheer for God.
- Ephesians 5:20 – Always give thanks to God. God always has a plan. God is good!
Activity #3: Act out good/bad things (getting a hug, getting a gift, food, friends, scrape on finger, bumping head, scary noise)
Sing after each good/bad thing (Tune: Are You Sleeping?) GOOD things happen, BAD things happen. God has a plan, God has a plan. He will make it all good, He will make it all good. Yes, He will – yes, He will!
- When I was singing the line, “He will make it all good,” I gave Katelyn a hug. She loves hugs, so she welcomed it each time. :)
Child-led Exploration: After I had cleaned up the blankets and put them back in the bin where we keep them, Katelyn enjoyed tossing the ball down in the bin and trying to find it again.
