Toddler Bible Lessons – Week 4: Joseph

Joseph Day 5: Forgiveness and Love

*There are 2 activities for this day’s lesson. Feel free to choose one of the activities OR spread them out over several days! :)

  • Materials:
  • Bible (I like the NirV)
  • Activity #1: white board and eraser (or white paper and pencil with eraser)
  • Activity #2: white crayon, bleeding tissue paper (or watercolor paints), paintbrush and cup of water

Day 5: Lesson and Activities:

  • Open Bible to Genesis 45:4-5. Ask if child wants to touch God’s Word. Touch gently. Joseph was not angry to see his brothers. Joseph was happy to see his brothers because he loved them. Joseph forgave his brothers for the bad they did. Then, read the verses.

Activity #1:

  • Draw an angry face on white board. Speak/sing poem. Then erase the angry face to show forgiveness.
  • Joseph’s brothers were jealous, jealous, jealous (say jealous with an angry voice). Joseph’s brothers were jealous – grr, grr, grr. But Joseph forgave them, forgave them, forgave them (speak with a sweet voice). But Joseph forgave them, just like God forgives.
  • Draw chains on the board (to show Joseph being sold into slavery). Speak/sing poem. Erase to show forgiveness.
  • Joseph’s brothers sold him, sold him, sold him (say sold him with an angry voice). Joseph’s brothers sold him – bye bye, bye bye, sad. But Joseph forgave them, forgave them, forgave them (speak with a sweet voice). But Joseph forgave them, just like God forgives.
  • I laid down a towel underneath the white board because Katelyn tends to drop the marker when she’s done, and she’s also not too careful staying just on the white board sometimes.
  • She enjoyed drawing with the markers, erasing, organizing the markers, and trying to take the lid off and put it back on. Fortunately, she wasn’t able to take the lids off herself, so I only took the lid off one marker at a time. ;)

Activity #2: This activity didn’t go as I planned because the fingerpaint was too thick to show the secret message, but I ordered some bleeding tissue paper to try with once it arrives. You could also probably use watercolor paints over the white crayon message.

  • Write “I love you” message with white crayon on a piece of paper – can draw a heart around it or near it. I also wrote this week’s verse at the top.
  • I let Katelyn color with the white crayon also. I tried to go over the lines pretty thick in hopes that the paint would allow the message to be seen.
  • We used fingerpaints, which were definitely too thick to see the secret message. I ended up writing the message in the paint with my finger afterwards.
  • If you look around the heart, you can see some swirls that I drew with the white crayon. I didn’t write over those with my finger, so you can see how the message did show through faintly, but not well enough to read the “I love you” message.
  • Once our bleeding tissue paper arrives, I’m going to write a new secret white crayon message. Then we will paint the page with water, lay down the bleeding tissue paper squares, paint over it with water, and let it dry. Hopefully the message will come through when we shake off the dried tissue paper! See page 8 for picture of the activity.

Closing: Ephesians 5:20 – Always give thanks to God. We can thank God that His plan is best.
